Retail after-tax profits were $112.3 billion in the second quarter
The Census Bureau's Quarterly Financial Report for large U.S. retail trade corporations, released September 8 as CB26-143, said seasonally adjusted after-tax profits of firms with assets of $50 million and over totaled $112.3 billion in the second quarter of 2026, up $45.1 billion from $67.2 billion in the first quarter and up $51.7 billion from $60.6 billion in the second quarter of 2025. Seasonally adjusted sales were $1,171.1 billion, up $28.5 billion from $1,142.6 billion in the first quarter and up $88.7 billion from $1,082.4 billion a year earlier.
