Existing-home sales fell to 3.98 million in August
The National Association of Realtors said existing-home sales fell 2.0 percent in August to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.98 million, down 1.2 percent from a year earlier and the first reading below 4.0 million since June 2025. The median existing-home price was $429,100, up 1.6 percent from $422,400 a year earlier. Inventory rose 3.2 percent from July to 1.62 million units, a 4.9-month supply, up from 4.6 months in July. NAR said the August average 30-year fixed mortgage rate was 6.67 percent, from Freddie Mac, up from 6.54 percent in July.
